The Real Ghostbusters

The Real Ghostbusters is an animated television series (cartoon) based on the original Ghostbusters Movie. The series was on air from 1986 to 1991. The cartoon was produced by Columbia, DiC, and Coca Cola. Due to a dispute with Filmation and Ghostbusters Properties the series was titled The Real Ghostbusters. The cartoon continued where the movie left off and followed Dr. Eagon Spengler, Dr. Ray Stantz, Dr. Peter Venkman, Winston Zeddemore, as well as Slimmer as they tackle ghosts and other paranormal adventures.

The name of the Ghostbusters cartoon changed to Slimer! And the Real Ghostbusters as the start of their 3rd season in 1998. The show received an hour long time slot and featured the regular show followed by a half hour sub-series starting Slimer.

Extreme Ghostbusters was released in 1997 as a sequel to the original cartoon. Created by Columbia and Adelaide Productions the series premiered on September 1st and ran for a total of 40 episodes and conclude on December 8th. The story line of this short lived Ghostbusters cartoon took place several years after The Real Ghostbusters and finds the team disbanded due to the lack of paranormal activity. The last members of the Ghostbusters are Egon and Slimmer and they maintain the containment unit. When ghosts suddenly begin to appear Egon recruits a new team of college students to ward them off. The original Ghostbusters appear in the season finale to celebrate Egon’s Birthday. They reluctantly get back together for one last mission to end the show.
