Ghostbusters 3: Hellbent may be the most anticipated trequel in any movie franchise ever. There have been rumors for many years about the potential making of a new Ghostbusters Movie. The former rumored name for the film was Ghostbusters in Hell. The current working title is Ghostbusters 3: Hellbent and it may actually go to production. Earlier this year Rory Bruer from Sony Pictures confirmed the long-circulating rumor that the studio is perusing Ghostbusters 3. According to Harold Ramis, a writer and main character of the first two Ghosbusters, a third movie is in the cards. Ramis also claims that the original cast (Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd, Rick Moranis, and even Bill Murray) will return. Rick Moranis has verbally confirmed he will come out of semi-retirement to play his role as Louis Tully.
Screen writers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenburg from the popular hit comedy series the Office have partnered with some of the original script writers to pen Ghostbusters 3: Hellbent. It was also widely rumored that Director Judd Apatow would direct the 3rd installment for the franchise. Doug Belgrad (President of Columbia) has announced that Apatow is not onboard for the movie. Belgrad does state that Ghostbusters 3 is definitely getting the go-ahead after receiving positive feedback from many loyal Ghostbusters Fans. He adds, “"Judging from the frenzy on the internet, there still seems to be plenty of interest in the idea of doing another film, so we're certainly taking that as a good sign."
In an interview with Dan Aykroyd earlier this year he stated, "Script is commenced early summer. Hope to be in production by late fall 2009." The tentative release date for this film is Summer 2012. Until then all Ghostbusters Fans are sitting on the edge of their seats awaiting the release of Ghostbusters 3: Hellbent.
